Inpatient Hospice Care
In most cases, hospice care is provided for the patient in the environment they call home, and our goal is to keep the patient at home and as comfortable as possible. However, in some cases, symptoms can become acute, complex or uncontrollable. In situations like this, it may be necessary for inpatient care. Our agency has a Hospice Center at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, or we coordinate with local healthcare facilities or hospitals to provide this care as needed.
Our Hospice Center inpatient unit is located at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis at 929 N. St Francis, Wichita, KS 67214 in the northwest corner, eighth floor, elevator bank C.
Skilled or Assisted Living Facility
For our patients who are already living in a skilled or assisted living facility, our team can work with the facility to coordinate the best plan of hospice care.
Providing care at a skilled or assisted living facility does not take the place of the facility’s existing staff. We supplement the facility’s care and coordinate between doctors, nursing staff, the patient, family, and others to ensure the patient is always comfortable and their needs are being met.
When to consider inpatient care?
Here are some indicators that may point to the need for Inpatient care:
Where is inpatient hospice care provided?
Inpatient care is around-the-clock clinical care that can be provided in a hospice inpatient unit, healthcare facility, or hospital.
inpatient hospice facilities, sometimes referred to as a hospice center or hospice house, differ from acute-care facilities. A Hospice Center is designed with the end-of-life journey in mind. Staff members are given plenty of time to care for each patient and often take time to talk, visit with the family, and answer questions.
The Hospice Center’s calm environment is by design, but rest assured that intensive pain and symptom management is at work. The goal is to stabilize the patient so they may return to their home environment.
The inpatient Hospice Center team:
In most cases, our team is able to manage the patient’s symptoms in a few days, allowing the patient to return home to familiar surroundings.
